JOHN F. DAVIS
Yonkers resident John F. Davis is a two-time Emmy Award winner and has been has been a Production Designer, Visual Consultant, Storyboard Artist and Illustrator..
As a Storyboard Artist and Illustrator for over 75 major motion pictures, John has designed camera shots and scenes for directors such as Sydney Pollack, Martin Scorsese, Sam Mendes, Robert De Niro, Baz Luhrmann, Lasse Hallstrom, Jonathan Demme, M. Night Shyamalan and Barry Sonnenfeld, among many others, with an initial collaboration in 1983 with Jim Henson and Frank Oz.
He has also been a Storyboard Artist for television series, among which are The Blacklist, Blindspot, Manifest, Quantico, Person of Interest, New Amsterdam, White Collar, Blue Bloods, Law and Order, Gossip Girl, Royal Pains and many others.
Storyboarding is an essential preliminary part of great filmmaking. In this talk, John will examine the importance and value of storyboarding in the filmmaking process. Examples of Davis’ boards for action scenes in The Departed, The Great Gatsby and The Muppets Take Manhattan will be reviewed before screening the scenes as realized in those movies. He will also have examples of other scenes he has designed for features such as Skyfall, Black Swan, Salt, Doubt, and others. Davis will also give a short instruction on the basics of storyboarding for film and television.
